Starch is Bad for Diabetics, Why is it Recommended?

BRITISH NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE’S BIZARRE RECOMMENDATION FOR DIABETICS

Some things make me want to scream. From the British National Health Service web site we have:

“The important thing in managing diabetes through your diet is to eat regularly and include starchy carbohydrates, such as pasta,….”

Do these people live in a parallel universe? Type II (adult onset) diabetes is, very simply, an inability to metabolize excess amount of carbohydrates, specifically glucose.

Starchy carbohydrates, all of them, are converted 100% to glucose in your small intestine. This includes pasta, bread, rice, corn, etc., whole grain or not.

It you wanted to make sure the diabetes got worse, we could hardly think of a better way than to increase glucose intake.

The site goes on to suggest a reduction in saturated fat, also bad advice.

For the last 20 years, trial after trial have shown that type 2 diabetics patients benefitted most from low carb, high fat sorts of diets. The results are usually dramatic.

In fact, the low fat, high grain diet, which the American and most European governments have been promoting for the last 40 years are the root cause of the diabetes epidemic. Adult onset diabetes was rare 75 years ago.

Because diabetes was rare 75 years ago means it is not a genetic disease (though you will hear again and again that it is). Genetics simply can’t change that fast. In fact we still react to most food based on our ancient genetics that evolved when we were all hunter-gatherers. That’s around 10,000 ago, so forget genetics. It can be that you have a genetic tendency to store excess sugar and starch as fat. This ability helped our ancient ancestors get through the ice age winters. However, if you are storing too much of it, the solution isn’t to eat more of it. Any child would grasp this.

In short, adult onset diabetes is almost always a curable disease rooted in bad behavior promoted and encouraged by the public health services of every ‘civilized’ nation. The British NHS site says there is no cure, and that is true only if you follow their strange advice.
